ACS-SBQ Virtual Meetings on Organic Synthesis and Catalysis
The ACS-SBQ Virtual Meetings on Organic Synthesis and Catalysis is a collaboration between the American Chemical Society (ACS), through ACS Publications, the ACS Brazil Chapter, and the Organic Chemistry Division from the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ).

Presentations of the day (November 24th, 2020):

Prof. Takeshi Nanjo (Short talk)
Title: Mild and Chemoselective Amidation Enabled by Oxidative Decarboxylation of α-Ketoacids
Abstract: The development of amide bond formation reactions is still an important research topic in organic synthesis due to the growing interest in peptide synthesis. In the course of investigations to find a different approach from a conventional dehydrative condensation reaction, we focused on decarboxylative transformation of α-ketoacids which are found in biochemical intermediates such as pyruvic acid, and found that α-ketoacids could efficiently couple with amines by the assistance of nucleophilic oxidants such as alkyl hydroperoxides to provide the corresponding amides in excellent yields. This presentation will describe the recent synthetic methods developed by our laboratory, including chemoselective acylation of amines, its application to peptide synthesis, and catalytic asymmetric synthesis of α-ketoacid derivatives.

Prof. Brenno A. da Silveira Neto (Long talk)
Title: Fluorescent Benzothiadiazoles and Functional Chromophores Synthesized by Multicomponent Reactions: Fundamentals, Mechanisms and Imaging Application
Abstract: The synthesis and application of fluorescent benzothiadiazoles and functional chromophores synthesized by MCRs will be explored. The fundamentals, catalytic system development, mechanism elucidation and biological imaging will be discussed.
