Latin American Seminar on Open Science and Open Access
LATIN AMERICAN SEMINAR ON OPEN ACCESS AND OPEN SCIENCE: how academic institutions can support and stimulate open access publication and increase the impact and the visibility of their research.

Open Science refers to initiatives to make research and its dissemination open and accessible in all its phases - from raw and laboratory data to research processes, preprints and final scientific articles publication, seeking collaboration and maximum transparency of the entire process. Aligned with this, Open Access refers to the movement that seeks to make the results of scientific research widely available and accessible, under specific terms or licenses that allow reuse to any person or institution that wants to access them.

The American Chemical Society (ACS), the largest scientific society in the world, and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) recently signed an open access agreement, seeking to ensure broad access and visibility to the scientific research developed at the University. This partnership represents a major milestone and a highly relevant step towards the expansion of open access publishing in Brazil and Latin America. With that, the Latin American Seminar on Open Science and Open Access intends to launch the project and share its main features as well as seek discussion of trends, opportunities and challenges related to open access and open science movements. Moreover, the goal of this initiative is to discuss how academic institutions, their administrators, and librarians can support and stimulate open access publication and increase the impact and the visibility of their research.
